Kioomars Musayyebi was born in 1977 in Tehran and is a student of the renowned santur master \u00a0Faramarz Payevar<\/a>.<\/p>

Film composers Farhad Fakhreddini<\/a> and \u00a0Kambiz Roshanravan<\/a> taught him music theory and composition.<\/p>

Qualifications<\/b><\/span><\/h6>

In 2010, he obtained his Bachelor\u2019s degree in Instrumental Music from the Teheran University of Art.\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>

From 2013 to 2015, Kioomars Musayyebi completed his Master\u2019s studies in Music.World \u2013 Cultural Diversity in Music Education at the Universit\u00e4t Hildesheim<\/a>.<\/p>

He continues to work as a lecturer for santur at the Center for World Music (CWM) \u2013 Stiftung Universit\u00e4t Hildesheim.<\/a> Foundation.<\/p>

Experience<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Zu Beginn seines Werdegangs war er als Santurspieler und Komponist mehrerer iranischer Musikgruppen t\u00e4tig mit diversen Konzertauftritten im Iran und im Ausland.<\/p>

From 2001 to 2008, he accompanied theatre groups under the direction of the renowned director Pari Saberi<\/a> in performances at Tehran\u2019s Vahdat-Halle Teheran<\/a>.<\/p>

Es folgten diverse Produktionen, u.a. von Filmmusik, Werbefilmen und multimedialen Kindergeschichten, teils im eigenen Studio teils f\u00fcr Fremdproduktionen, wobei er fundierte Erfahrung in Tontechnik, Musik- und Filmproduktion etablierte.\u00a0<\/p>

At the age of 18, he began teaching santur at various music schools in Tehran. In 2007, he produced six instructional CDs for santur education.<\/p>

In 2008, he founded his own music school in Tehran, the Avay-e-Shahrzad Music School, which continues to provide musical education to this day.\u00a0<\/p>

Since 2011, he has been teaching, composing, and performing in Germany\u2014collaborating with musicians from Europe, India, Africa, and Asia, as well as with various international ensembles.<\/p>

Skills\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>

Neben dem aktiven Musizieren leitet er Workshops und Seminare f\u00fcr persische Musiktheorie, u.a. an der Landesmusikakademie Heek<\/a>, der Musikhochschule Dresden und im\u00a0Opernhaus Dortmund<\/a>, z.B. bei den Auff\u00fchrungen \u201eDie B\u00fcrgschaft<\/a>\u201c und \u201eDer kleine schwarze Fisch\u201c.<\/a><\/p>

Seit 2017 ist Musayyebi als Beirat im\u00a0NRW Kultursekretariat Wuppertal<\/a> t\u00e4tig und seit 2020 Musiker und Mitglied des Kuratoriums des Kollektivs: \u201eBeyond the roots<\/a>\u201c. Seit 2021 wirkt er als Sprecherrat der Plattform Aktuelle Musikkulturen (PAM) der Initiative Freie Musik K\u00f6ln (IFM e.V.)<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>

As a music scholar, he has been teaching both the practical and theoretical aspects of music for over two decades.<\/p>

Career in Music\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>

Musayyebi spielte als Solist bei den Festivals: Moers Festival, Jazzoffensive-Potsdam, Fusion-Berlin, Opernhaus Berlin, Folk\u2019n\u2019Fusion\u2013(Hildesheim), Dastgah Festival. (Hannover), Musica Sacra International\u2013Marktoberdorf (Bayern), Ruhr International Festival (Bochum) und mit seiner Band, dem Kioomars Musayyebi Quartett<\/a> bei: Hildesheimer Wallungen, Essen.Original Festival sowie beim Wettbewerb Creole 2017 und 2019 in NRW.\u00a0<\/p>

Seit 2013 ist er Teil des\u00a0Transorient Orchestra<\/a>, einer aktuell 13- k\u00f6pfigen Weltmusik-Bigband aus dem Ruhrgebiet, welche 2017 den WDR-Jazz-Preis gewann und 2024 f\u00fcr den Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik in der Kategorie \u201eTraditionelle ethnische Musik<\/a>\u201c nominiert wurde.\u00a0<\/p>

In addition to the Transorient Orchestra, he has been performing regularly since 2016 with the virtuoso guitarist Andreas Heuser as the Duo \u201eSantur-Gitarre<\/a>\u201c. In 2015, he founded his own ensemble, the Kioomars Musayyebi Quartett<\/a>, where four musicians from Iran and Germany artfully blend impressions of oriental melodies and rhythms with European arrangements, world music, and jazz influences.<\/p>

Since 2017, he has also performed with the Orchester der Kulturen<\/a>\u201c (\u201cOrchestra of Cultures\u201d)\u2014\u201cthe only orchestra featuring instruments from all over the world\u201d\u2014under the direction of Adrian Werum<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>

In 2017 and 2019, he participated in two dialogue projects of the NRW Cultural Secretariat titled \u201cWest\u2013Eastern String Dialogue\u201d and \u201c SONIQ \u2013 Oriental Strings<\/a>\u201c<\/p>

Seit 2018 spielt er mit dem \u201eNouruz Ensemble<\/a>\u201c, welches aus vier Virtuosen orientalischer Instrumente besteht, der Djoze, der Santur, der Nay und verschiedenen Trommeln. Das Ensemble akademischer MusikerInnen wirkte u.a. in der Elbphilharmonie Hamburg<\/a> 2025 auch au\u00dferhalb der Grenzen von Deutschland.\u00a0<\/p>

In 2018, 2019, and 2023, Musayyebi accompanied the theater productions \u201eA Letter to a Friend in Gaza<\/a>\u201cand \u201eHouse<\/a>\u201c by the renowned director Amos Gitai<\/a> in Paris and London. This collaboration continued in 2024 and 2025 with performances in Paris, London, Rome, Berlin, and Madrid.<\/p>

2024 gastierte Musayyebi mit Gitais Werk \u201eChronic of a murder<\/a>\u201d im Wiener Burgtheater. F\u00fcr Gitais nominierte Filmpremiere \u201cWhy War<\/a>\u201d bei der Biennale<\/a> in Venedig 2024 war Musayyebi ebenfalls Teil der musikalischen Ausgestaltung.<\/p>

2025 folgte eine weitere Theaterpremiere namens \u201eGolem<\/a>\u201c in Paris und Pompeji<\/a>, weitere Zusammenarbeit im Theaterkontext folgte 2026 in Paris und Madrid<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>

His 2021 album \u201eA Voice keeps calling me<\/a>\u201c was nominated for the German Record Critics\u2019 Award in the category \u201cTraditional Ethnic Music.\u201d<\/p>

2021 bis heute ist er Mitglied des Asambura Ensembles<\/a>, „ein internationales MusikerInnen-Kollektiv, das den Gedanken von konstruktiven Dialogen verschiedener Kulturen und Religionen vermittelnd und kooperativ weitertr\u00e4gt.“<\/p>

In 2022, he contributed to Annette Maiburg<\/a>\u2019s project Oriental Colours<\/a> \u2013 Literature, Music, and Dance from Iran in Dialogue\u201d, as well as to the award-winning \u201cPrima Materia<\/a>\u201d project by Maria Jonas<\/a> and Bassem Hawar<\/a>.<\/p>

2022 bis dato ist er Teil des transkulturellen \u201cBridges-Kammerorchesters<\/a>\u201d, welches seine Kompositionen, z.B. Simorgh<\/a>\u00a0und Entezar<\/a> urauff\u00fchrte.\u00a0<\/p>

He also participated in the musical production of the acclaimed film \u201cRheingold<\/a>\u201d by Fatih Akin<\/a> in 2022.<\/p>

In November 2023, the Orchester der Landesregierung NRW<\/a> performed some of his compositions during the concert \u201cMusic Like from 1001 Nights\u201d at the Tonhalle D\u00fcsseldorf.<\/p>

Ferner ist er seit 2023 engagiert im multidimensionalen K\u00fcnstlerkollektiv \u201cKomostronix<\/a>\u201d, ein Projekt von Maren Lueg<\/a> und im Tember Ensemble,<\/a> eine weitere transkulturelle und elektroakustische Kollaboration, initiiert von Alireza Ostovar<\/a>, mit welchem er u.a. beim Moers Festival gastierte und in 2024 f\u00fcr den Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik in den Kategorien \u201eElectronic und Experimental und Grenzg\u00e4nge<\/a>\u201c nominiert wurde.<\/p>

In 2024, he took part in the world premiere of Doppelkonzert f\u00fcr Viola, Santur und Kammerorchester<\/a>\u201cby Iranian composer Golfam Khayam<\/a> with the Bridges-Kammerorchester\u201d<\/a> at Hessischen Rundfunk<\/a> in Frankfurt.<\/p>

That same year, he also contributed to the musical realization of the award-winning film \u201eSeven days<\/a>\u201c by Samadi Ahadi<\/a>.<\/p>

The year 2025 has been marked by international performances, including appearances in theatrical contexts as well as classical concert collaborations with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra<\/a> in Amsterdam and the Orchestre National de Bretagne<\/a> in Rennes.<\/p>

In 2025, the Kioomars Musayyebi Quintett<\/a>, an ensemble of virtuoso musicians, also began its work.<\/p>
